Masefield, John
(1 jun. 1878, Ledbury, Herefordshire, Inglaterra–12 may. 1967, cerca de Abingdon, Berkshire).

Poeta inglés. En su juventud entró a la marina y luego llevó una vida muy precaria en EE.UU. durante varios años, antes de radicarse en Londres. Es conocido principalmente por sus poemas sobre el mar, Baladas de agua salada (1902, entre las que se cuentan Fiebre del mar y Cargoes [Cargas]), y por sus extensos poemas narrativos, como La misericordia eterna (1911), que se caracterizan por el uso de ásperos coloquialismos, desconocidos en la poesía inglesa de comienzos del s. XX. Después de recibir el título de poeta laureado en 1930, su poesía se hizo más austera. También escribió novelas de aventura, ensayos y obras para niños.
